CPR Meeting Wednesday May 14th 5:30 p.m.

The Coalition for Police Review (CPR) will meet Wednesday May 14th at 5:30 p.m. at the Activist Resource Center (917 3rd Street) to explore methods of getting genuine, empowered police review processes implemented, by either the newly elected City Councils in Arcata, Eureka and Blue Lake, or by ballot initiatives in these respective cities. We are also interested in establishing review for county-level law enforcement agencies such as the Sheriff's Department and Probation Office.

I think it would be a good idea to discuss just how this would be effective as that seems to be they primary doubt amongst those who would like to see democratic accountability end corruption and diminish incompetence. And they are certainly in the majority; I have had a hard time finding anyone who really thinks that law enforcement is in a healthy and honorable state today or that it is accountable. Indeed, even it's supporters want to avoid accountability at all costs considering it an imposition on their effectiveness which is dependent on their circumventing the law at every step.

When the commit perjury routinely under oath in court and are loath to produce documents even when subpoenaed in existing courtroom situations what good will this review board have even with subpoena and other judicial powers .
If these questions are explored and answered I know many people would be on board including honest cops who are confined in a corrupt system.
